St.
Louis Testing Laboratories now has the capability to inspect concrete
structures, such as floors, decks, slabs, walls and parking garages
with the objective of locating rebar, tension cables, voids, conduit
and PVC pipes. Additionally, slab thickness determinations can be made.
These
inspections are conducted using ground penetrating radar (GPR)
technology, including state of the art scanning instrumentation and
interpretative software.
Targets can be located to depths of up to 18 inches in concrete.

Features can be interpreted and mapped with respect to the concrete structure.

Safer and more efficient than radiography (x-ray) and requires only single-sided access. Can be used in conjunction with radiographic inspection to estimate the relative size of embedded features.
